SolarWind Orion IP Address Manager provides integrated DHCP and DNS administration for IPv4 and IPv6. It offer Centralized IP Address management and connection with cloud solution for assign IP to requested VM.
To Integrate Orion with vRealize first we need to install this IPAM server on Windows Machine.
After installing Windows Server you need to download installer
SolarWind offer two version of this installer Online/Offline. We will use Offline installer.
When Installer start we have 3 choice for installation
In this lab Environment we use Light version with SQL Express which is good for learning purpose.
Next we need to choose product, and as we only required IPAM then only this will be chosen
Orion will test the environment
And after accepting EULA installation process will start.
After completing the wizard we are able to login to management page and configure IP range and package for vRO
To first login use admin without password but it should be change for configuration with vRO because password is required field for connection.
First element which we configure will be IP range. In laboratory I have subnet 172.16.2.0/24 but many of those addresses are already used so I added full range but set that only part is available and rest is reserved.
Now we can configure the package for vRO. Go to the settings IPAM Settings
And next to create package in VMware vRealize Orchestrator Integration
This package will be on local host so now we can go to the vRO and configure the integration.
In vRealize Orchestrator go to the administration and Import the package providing the specific element which was created in previous step
Accept the certificate
And this finishing the installation.
To configure vRO with Orion we need add host to the vRO and for this we can use out of box workflow.
After providing requested information
And setup login credentials
Orion host will successfully connect to vRO
Now we can use out of box workflow to manage the IP addresses and other elements provided by Orion
But we want integrate this with our vRealize Automation. To do this we will use also out of box workflow and use vRA configuration which is already in vRO
Now we have our IPAM in vRO and synched with vRA
But in vRA we need also add this as an endpoint so go to the Infrastructure –> Endpoint –> Endpoint and in Endpoint name choose new IPAM solution Solarwind
Provide host details
And this finish the configuration. At this moment you are able to use this IPAM solution with your new build Machine.
For using this you need to create Network profile and assign this to the reservation for using it in blueprint
This network profile will use our created IP range.
In blueprint you need to add network element as existing network and point it to our External-IPAM
After save, publish and entitle this we can request it and wait for successfully finish
For Confirmation in Item we can see that our VM has external network using our External-IPAM network profile and IP from provided Range
Also in Orion we can confirm that this VM reserved this specific IP address
