Unfortunately, this is the way things are that everything that begins must end. This was also what happened with this year’s VMworld. The largest IT conference organized by VMware has come to an end. Here we could end up wrapping ourselves in the blanket and awaiting the coming winter, but not in this case.
As every year, VMworld started with a General Session led by the new CEO Raghu Raghuran. And that’s where it all started. VMware started to present news that I personally think is amazing. Project Cascade, Project Capitola, Project Arctic, Project Ensemble. So many new solutions in one place.
Project Cascade brings us a new dimension of Kubernetes in the Cloud. So a multi-cloud infrastructure based on K8s
Another project is Project Capitola, it is a development of the previously announced Project Montenery. At Montenery, we had better use of the GPU here, everything is memory based. This is a better memory allocation for memory-hungry applications.
Project Arctic – a combination of multi-cloud and as-a-service model of on-prem infrastructure.
The last of the projects is Project Ensemble for me, probably the largest solution, the most interesting, but it is certainly due to my passion for the multi-cloud solution offered by VMware. To the point, the Ensemble project is a combination of the Multi-Cloud environment and vRealize solutions. This means that all the different VMware cloud management capabilities — self-service, elasticity, metering, and more — are in one place.
During the entire conference, there are many presentations, many announcements, excellent guests. In my opinion, the new VMware CTO Kit Kolbert does the best job on the scene. Personally, he is my idol not only in the way of presentation, but his career from apprentice to CTO shows that if you believe, everything can be achieved. Kit led Keynote and it was one of the best performances.
As every year, stars could not be missing. This year, VMware hosted Michael J. Fox and Will Smith. Both interviews were conducted by VMware “authorities” Carol Carpenter and Sumit Dhawn. Although both discussions were very motivating, the most remembered thing that MJF said, “Help someone and maybe someone will help you, everyone has struggles” shows us that it is worth being good and sharing this good, and maybe it will come back to us.
This also leads us to one of the many VMware programs that is vExpert where it is the community, people just like you and me, share their knowledge and experience and don’t keep it to themselves. And here applause for Corey Romero and Martijn Smit
Many other interesting sessions took place, but I have already written about it in another article. Life was also buzzing on a special slack channel where you could talk to VMware employees as well as feel a substitute for social that is missing in the remote organization of the conference.
I could write here and write about news about additions to products about new solutions with many other aspects, but I would definitely write it live at least to the future VMworld. However, at the moment I feel a slight sadness that this is the end and again I will have to wait a whole year for this event. However, what I learned is mine and I will tell you the secret that soon you will be able to get to the VMworld content again in the form of on-demad, which will allow you to experience it again in your free time.
Therefore, be healthy and to meet / hear at the next events.
