Home Lab again…

Posted on March 20, 2019March 20, 2019 by admin

Few years ago I had my own VMware Laboratory which was quite impressive as it was built on HP Blade servers. Unfortunately I’ve loose it. Right now I decide to build another one on my private gear, as I’m vExpert now I have access to LAB licence which I can use for home purpose.

As I’m still preparing to VCAP-CMA exam my Home Lab will be for vRealize Suite

The HARDWARE

  • PowerEdge R610
  • CPU: 2x Six Core Intel Xeon X5650
  • RAM: 96GB DDR3
  • HDD: 2x 300GB 10k
  • RAID: Perci 6i/SAS 6/IR
  • NIC: 4x 1Gbit Broadcom
  • Size: 1U
  • PSU: 2x
  • Switch: D-Link DGS-108

The SOFTWARE

For CMA I need

For CMA I need vRealize Suite and few other tools from other vendor. So on physical Server I’ve installed ESXi in 6.7U1

Virtual Machine list:

NSX-M
NSX-Controller x3
vRAMGR x2
vRAWEB x2
vRADEM x2
vRAPRX x2
vRA Appliance x2 7.3 as it required in VCAP-CAM exam

What’s the overall cost of the whole hardware part?
This is quite challenging part in terms of hardware limitations that some people face when trying to build a decent home lab.
